Do you have
your AMB transponder ?
The SCCA determined and declared the AMB timing and scoring the official
timing and scoring program of the SCCA. The transition to the AMB system has been
occurring across the nation during the year 2001, and we anticipate that it will
become the primary timing and scoring next year. |
| | The
Florida Region adopted the AMB system. All races in the region require the use
of an AMB unit. These transponders are for sale or rent directly from the region.
|
| The
Florida Region uses the AMB transponder system
for timing and scoring of road races. There is a loop buried into the racetracks
at the start finish line that registers your transponder number, time and number
of laps. | |
If
you want your times to be accurate (and who doesn't)? You got to make sure Timing
& Scoring gets your transponder number well in advance. The best way to assure
this is to put your transponder number on your registration form and your registrar
will get the number to Timing and Scoring. When
you install the transponder; attach it to a location on your car where there is
no obstruction between the transponder and the loop in the track. Closed wheel
racers usually place them inside a front wheel well. Open wheel racers usually
attach the transponder on the side of the tub or bottom. However,
if you rent a transponder at the track, you will need to take your transponder
number up to Timing & Scoring to assure that they you are entered into the
computer. Without your transponder number Timing & Scoring will not know who
you are on the track. And of course you want your new track records recorded -
right? 1.
If you own your own transponder, write the number down in your log book and be
sure to enter it on your T&S registration form when you mail the entry to
the registrar.
2.
If you borrow or rent transponders, make sure the data gets recorded
accurately. Check your wiring and batteries like you check your
oil and tire pressures.
There are two types available. Direct wired, 12v or a rechargeable
unit. The rechargeable unit has a life of about 4 years and the
battery is replaceable (it will NOT last an entire race weekend).
Both units carry a three-year warranty from AMB.
Please contact AMB
Transponders to purchase units.
The
Region will be offering rental units at a cost of $50.00 per weekend.

TranX260
Direct Powered Transponder The
direct powered TranX260 transponder is becoming increasingly popular. In most
cases the transponder, once mounted, stays on the vehicle for the duration of
the season. The transponder comes with a fixed wire for connection to the 12V
battery. Power consumption is extremely low and does not effect the operation
of the vehicle in any way. |
 |
TranX260
Rechargeable Transponder The
rechargeable TranX260 transponder comes with an individual charger which operates
through a standard wall socket or through the cigarette lighter in a car. The
number of flashes of the green indicator light on the transponder, shows the number
of days left before the battery needs to be recharged. Five hours before the battery
becomes fully discharged, this indicator light changes from green to red. When
this change occurs, also the race organization gets an alarm on its computer screen. |

Transponder FAQ What
is my transponder number ?
Your transponder number is the 7-digit number that is printed on the front
of the transponder. This number is the one you need to provide on your entry form.
If you rent a transponder at the track for the weekend you will need to take this
7 digit number to T & S.
Rechargeable or Direct Powered Personal Transponders
? The rechargeable TranX260 transponder comes with an individual
charger which operates through a standard wall socket or through the cigarette
lighter in a car. The number of flashes of the green indicator light on the transponder,
shows the number of days left before the battery needs to be recharged. Five hours
before the battery becomes fully discharged, this indicator light changes from
green to red. When this change occurs, also the race organization gets an alarm
on its computer screen. The direct powered TranX260 transponder is becoming increasingly
popular. In most cases the transponder, once mounted, stays on the vehicle for
the duration of the season. The transponder comes with a fixed wire for connection
to the 12V battery. Power consumption is extremely low and does not effect the
operation of the vehicle in any way.
How do I mount my transponder ? The
transponder can be easily mounted on the vehicle, by using the specially designed
transponder holder. This holder is permanently attached to the vehicle, with scotch
mount tape, ty wraps or pop rivets. The transponder can be placed or removed by
simply removing the pin.
The
transponder should be mounted so that you can read the logo and transponder number.
The bottom of the transponder should be pointed towards the track surface and
be located no higher than 2 feet off the ground with no metal or carbon fiber
between the transponder and the ground.
What are the advantages to a rechargeable transponder
? The advantages of rechargeable transponders are that they can
be mounted easily in almost any location and, with additional mounting brackets,
can be used on more than one vehicle. But it takes up to 48 hours to recharge.
What are the advantages to a Direct Powered transponder
? The Region recommends Direct Powered because you don't need
to recharge the transponder. The advantage of a Direct Powered transponder is
that once it is wired up correctly it is ready to go each time the car is started
up. There is no need to charge the transponder.
