businesses and vendors who support them in their participation in and love of
auto sports at rally, solo events and road races. Place an ad in the Torque for
less than advertising in local newspapers and national magazines.

THE
PUBLICATIONS COMMITTEE HOPES YOU LIKE THE NEW LOOK AND FEEL OF THE TORQUE. THE
SUCCESS OF THE "NEW" TORQUE RELIES ON YOU TO PROVIDE ARTICLES, PHOTOS
AND AND INFORMATION FOR PUBLICATION. WE WISH WE COULD BE OMNIPRESENT, BUT THAT
IS IMPOSSIBLE.
SO
GET INVOLVED IN YOUR REGION AND BECOME A CONTRIBUTING WRITER!
SO, YOU'D LIKE TO SUBMIT AN ARTICLE TO THE TORQUE?
Florida
Region welcomes your input. You don't have to be a professional writer, just enthusiastic
about racing and our organization. We need the viewpoints and insights of a wide
spectrum of our members: drivers, crew, mechanics, workers, stewards, tow truck
and ambulance operators, vendors, beleaguered spouses, children, parents, Speed
Freaks, pets. We're looking for articles for the Torque on any or all of the following:
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR-OPINIONS. Your opinion is important.
We want your feedback. If you agree, that's great. It is also important for us
to hear ways that we can improve our region or issues that may bother you. Come
on, guys and gals, we know you've got them. Either opinion columns or letters
to the editor are welcome. We will edit for space, but not alter your content
(unless, of course, you wax libelous).
FEATURES
ON PERSONALITIES OR TEAMS. Profiles of VIPs. Any racing celebrities you know?
Any who'd like to be? We can make you famous. Publicity starts here.
CLASS
REPORTS. IT, FV, Vintage, Spec Miata, GT.... We need a reporter for every
interest group.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCES at the racetrack, at driver's school, at worker's school,
working a specialty or supporting a driver or team. For example, what it's like
to crew, cook for and feed a 24 Longest Night team of maniacs. Or how you realized
your husband or wife or child was really serious about this new racing whim. The
possibilities are endless.
TECHNICAL TIPS. For example, how to best prepare a Vintage car to meet vintage
GCR requirements, or tune that carburetor, or effect that emergency repair at
the track.
DRIVING TIPS. Fast lap at Homestead. Best line at Roebling Road, or VIR, or
Laguna Seca for that matter. Overtaking. Braking: art or science? What your definition
is of race contact.
HUMOR. This needs no definition. Cartoons are welcome too, editorial or otherwise.
EDUCATIONAL ARTICLES. What happens to a protest once it's filed? How do you
file one anyway (or why)? What are the ramifications if a driver gets suspended?
Where's the best place to start if you want to get into racing, but are on a budget?
How do you get a sponsor to back you?
HISTORY OF THE CLUB. How did National SCCA or Florida Region SCCA get started?
Some of you were there! Who are some of the VIP's that new members don't know
but who have maintained our organization over the years?. Where did those Rats
come from anyway? And why do they hang out with flamingos?
OUR COMPETITION. What's up in other organizations or sanctioning bodies? What
are they doing that we should be doing or shouldn't? Do you know how many racers
are also model airplane enthusiasts? Or skydivers, or pilots? What's the common
thread here?
OPINIONS. Come on, guys, we know you've got them. Either opinion columns or
letters to the editor are welcome. We will edit for space, but not alter your
content (unless, of course, you wax libelous).
PHOTOS. Our professional photographers can't be everywhere. Send us the great
human interest shots everybody would love to see. Printed photos, or .jpeg or
.tif files are welcome. Original art work is welcome too.
ANNOUNCEMENTS of interest to the membership.
GUIDELINES
FOR SUBMISSION TO THE TORQUE:
DEADLINE INFORMATION: The sooner you get it to us,
the better. Features and technical articles can be used anytime, but time sensitive
material has to be submitted in advance. The deadline is the 1st of the month.
FORMAT: You don't have to be a professional writer. We'll be happy to check
your grammar and spelling for you and make corrections if needed. We won't change
the tone of your article or alter your voice or content, but we may edit for clarity
or space, and we'll probably divide it into smaller paragraphs.
Please
submit your article by e-mail in a rich text format if possible.
If
you submit your copy electronically, format your document as a text file (.txt).
It would helpful if you can run Spell and Grammar checkers before you submit (please
allow your text to wrap naturally). Electronically submit photos as .jpeg or .tif
files or mail us a photo print, and include labeling information so we can provide
a caption. Kindly provide digital photos in the highest resolution possible. Photos
submitted will not be returned. Be sure to acknowledge your work. Anonymous articles,
letters or photos will not be published.
