There are over 250 amateur road racing events conducted each year with more than 8,000 SCCA Licensed race car drivers competing at National or Regional levels and every one of these drivers need the help of SCCA Licensed Corner Workers and race officials to assure a successful event
Professional racing organizations like IRL, The Rolex Series, SCCA World Challenge, Trans-Am and Grand Am Racing, and even Formula One and Le Mans heavily rely on SCCA Race Officials to put on their events. When the Grand-Am cars come to Homestead, it's the Swamp Rats you see wearing white uniforms standing on the corners waving the flags and pulling the driver's and cars to safety. When Formula One returns to the U.S. for the
US Grand Prix, it will be the SCCA that staffs the corners and other areas like Timing and Scoring and Scrutineering. Several of our members have traveled the world taking part in the great races of the world.
Florida Region is very PROUD of our Workers, they are a well trained, dedicated group of PROFESSIONALS who are your BEST friends when you have an on track incident..
Florida Region Workers have adopted the title of "SWAMP RATS" for themselves and take names that they feel best represent their individual personalities, for instance, we have a “Beer Rat”, a “Bart Rat”,
a “Malibu Rat” and Our Current Flag Chief is “Spark Rat” (his name is Scott “Sparky” Farrell). The camaraderie of this great group of people is second to none and they can party just as hard as they work, so if you feel the need for speed from the second best seat in the house, join our Swamp Rats, you’ll have a ball.
