FLORIDA REGION RALLY CROSS
FLORIDA REGION has a great Rally Cross Program. Bob Ricker is on the SCCA National BOD for Rally and has spent considerable time developing our Rally Cross program.
Rally Cross is truly one of the most exciting and cost effective methods of competition, imagine throwing your car into a power slide as dirt and dust fly, you are powering through just your second turn and already you know "THIS IS ME" It is the most fun you can have with your clothes on, Now you can find out just how good your really are, you always knew you could do something like this, but you just didn't know where to start. Well here it is. This is FLORIDA REGION Rally Cross.
Tim Mincey, Sr. is our Rally Director and Tim is a Rally Cross driversecond to none, so is his son and now you can "Do In The DIRT" Just like Tim. It doesn't take much, just show up, your' gonna LOVE it.
"Rally Cross is the most widespread and readily accessible form of extreme dirt motor sport in the Sports Car Club of America" This is a direct quote from the SCCA.COM web site. The entry fees and equipment requirements are considerably less than those necessary to enter any other forms of performance rally, so in most locations one need only arrive at event registration with a sound, hardtop vehicle and the entry fee. FLORIDA REGION has helmets to loan and will assist the first time competitor with entering the appropriate class, making their way through technical inspection and finding their way around the course. And it is GREAT fun
Be sure and check the Florida Region Rally Cross Schedule to find the next event near you, then have at the most exciting entry-level auto sport on the planet!
ROAD RALLY
A Road REally Team is made up of two people in a regular street car, there is a driver and a Navigator, BOTH are very important to a successful Road Rally Team.
A Road Rally is not a race, but rather a precision event traversed over public roads within the legal speed limit. The Driving on time, making your check points along the route is the key to winning. Each team needs a watch or timer which can be synchronized to match official time, a writing pad and pen or pencil. Night Rallies require good internal lighting or flashlites
The Team is given route instructions which they should familiarize themselves with. The "Odometer Calibration Zone," is usually the first leg and is used to calibrate the rally car's odometer to the official mileage used to measure the course by the rally master. Then the fun begins, you must make the checkpoints on time, following the instructions in the route instruction booklet while never speeding (this is not a race), but rather trying to maintain
the average speed recommended by the Rally Director.
Regardless of how well you score, rallying is a lot of fun if you like to spend time in your car, see some scenery and spend time with congenial people. Rallies usually end at a location where munchies and beverages are available. You can join the rest of the crowd in discussing how the event went and how you did, while waiting for the final scores to be calculated and trophies to be awarded.
FLORIDA REGION Does Not have a Road Rally Program at this time, we are actively seeking someone who has the interest and time to head up our Road Rally program so if you or someone you know may be interested, please contact any member of the FLORIDA REGION SCCA BOD, we would love to have your help
